Workforce Composition and Individual Wage Level

Vocational education is a fundamental element of the Swiss educational system. The existing empirical studies provide evidence that vocational education and training pays for the individual worker and that purely academic education is not generally the better choice. Rather, combining both types of educations seems to be a worthwhile strategy. However, studies comparing vocational and academic education, to date, have focused on the individual worker without taking account of his co-workers. The aim of this project is to analyze the companies’ workforce composition in terms of the employees’ educational backgrounds.
