Associated researchers work in close collaboration with the Leading House (e.g., in joint research projects).
Simone Balestra is a post-doc researcher at the University of St. Gallen. He works on topics in education economics and labor economics, with a special focus on schooling and the returns to education. His collaboration with the Leading House includes joint projects (together with junior researchers) and workshops, in which he offers his expertise for ongoing projects.
Simon Janssen is a senior researcher at the IAB (Institut für Arbeitsmarkt- und Berufsforschung) in Nuremberg. His projects include empirical work on employee training and the depreciation of skills. He works on joint projects together with junior researchers of the Leading House, currently on the effects of trade on workers with specific/general human capital.
Miriam Koomen is a senior economist at the Swiss National Bank. Her main research focuses on international economics, related to current accounts and cross-border investment flows, and labor economics, including work on digitalization and returns to skills/tasks. Her collaboration with the Leading House includes research projects of junior as well as senior researchers.
Samuel Mühlemann is the professor of the chair of „Human Resource Education and Development" at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) in Munich. His research focuses on the roles of work councils and on cost-benefit analyses for apprenticeships, from the different country-perspectives. As a former graduate of the Leading House Economics of Education program, he now teaches in the program as a lecturer, passing on knowledge to junior researchers, and still works in close collaboration with Team Bern.

Christian Rupietta is an assistant professor of management at the Schumpeter School of Business and Economics and the Jackstädt Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Research at the University of Wuppertal. His research centers around the role of vocational education and training systems for innovation outcomes of firms and, more broadly, the organization of innovation systems and knowledge flows.
Harald Pfeifer holds the chair of „Economics of Vocational Education and Training“ at the Research Centre for Education and the Labour Market (ROA) at the University of Maastricht and also works as a senior researcher at the Bundesinstitut für Berufsbildung (BIBB). His works include studies on the hiring costs of firms and on the financing of apprenticeship training.
