Project 2

Quality of apprentices and effects on the net costs of training from the firm’s perspective

In the past, research on the willingness of companies to train apprentices was heavily focused on the question of how to induce non-training companies to train apprentices. For this reason, little is known about the factors determining the quantitative demand for apprentices, once a company has decided to train apprentices.

The aim of this project therefore is to find out what effect the quality of the apprentices has on the net costs of the training and thus on the willingness of the companies to train apprentices. This question is highly relevant for education policy, since an additional number of training places could be generated either by an increase in the number of training companies or by an increase in training places offered by companies already participating in apprenticeship schemes.
