In an interview in Oec. Magazine Prof. Backes-Gellner comments on why educational systems such as the one of Switzerland are well-equipped for the developments associated with the progressive digitalization. While in the U.S. people often only learn a narrow “job” that quickly becomes obsolete with a new technology, in Switzerland people learn an “occupation”, including a broad bundle of different competences, and are thus more able to flexibly adapt to new technologies and new conditions coming with them.
