Determinants of the occupational choice of teachers in VET

Against the background of demographic and economic changes it has become increasingly important to better know the reasons, why, under what conditions and which persons decide to become a teacher in VET-schools. Teachers for VET-contents in Switzerland are typically persons who go into full-time or part-time teaching after a more or less long career in their respective profession. For teachers in VET this means therefore a new or re-orientation in their career, whereas for other teachers (academic) the decision to become a teacher is mostly their initial educational and occupational choice and decision. For this reason the relevance of actual professional alternatives is much different for becoming teachers in VET than for teachers the academic school system. The research project examines both the economic and the non-economic factors which affect the decision to become a teacher in VET.
